While on a casual chat with Sathvik, I understood there was a group organizing a trek to Kumaraparvatha, the cost associated with it was 2.8k, all inclusive. And just then, it struck us that we should either join that group or plan it all ourselves to trek KP (Kumaraparvatha) to reduce the cost.
KP had been my eluded dream for a while. Once I even set out to conquer it, but fate had other plans in mind. This time around though, with the weather on our side we decided we had to make it, come what may. That's the beauty of having like minded people in a group. Without much difficulty, we had the group (Koli, Katti, Sathvik Sudhir and myself) and we decided the departure date as 9th December, 2011.
From my interactions with friends who've trekked KP and a few blogs, collected quite a lot of information on the route. One route starts from Kukke, but would've been extremely difficult, but not impossible. Yet, taking our fitness into consideration, we chose to take the easier route to the peak, which starts from Somwarpet, Coorg. So having decided the dates and the route, we decided to book the tickets. Unfortunately, due to the peak trekking season that it is, we could not find seats in the lone Rajahamsa bus that goes to Somwarpet on Friday nights from Bangalore. Backing out of the trip or postponing it was not an option, so we inquired at a few Private Bus companies, but with little luck. With options drying out, we had to choose between postponing it or leave to Somwarpet on Friday morning in an Airavat. This would mean taking a day off, but surprisingly, everyone were fine with it. On the brighter side, this plan would mean, we all could (if w choose to) get a good sleep before starting the trek the next day.
With tickets booked, we started preparing with the stuff to carry for the trek. Having been on quite a few treks, the list was pretty much on my mind.
